Along the Prairie Road
Traffic is scarce along country roads on the prairie, so it’s the things just off the road that cause slow downs and stops. These iris along the fence row between the road and field caught my attention driving home from the office this afternoon.
I pulled the Jeep over to get a closer look –no honking, just a friendly wave from a neighboring farmer. Although the grass of the roadside ditch seemed an unlikely place for a bed of iris, it turns out these iris have a great view of the corn crop emerging in the field just beyond the fence.
At the entrance to the field, another patch of iris joined some yellow wildflowers in watching over the new crop.
This particular iris also seemed to be taking a moment to reflect on the joy of life on the prairie.
I wish you joy along whatever road you find yourself!
