Milkweek pods and seeds

Flint Corn and Milkweed Coming Soon!

Catalogs and packets and tins and jars of seed brought colorful encouragement to the farm house during the cold months.  It’s exciting that those seeds will soon be in the ground sprouting new color across fields and gardens.

This jar of milkweed pods and seeds reminded me all winter of the milkweed that the butterflies love so much.  Looking forward to seeing it in full bloom again soon!  It reminded my husband of all the interesting stuff we can make from what we grow.  He remembered his mom using milkweed pods for the manger on the nativities they made together when he was a kid.

Milkweed that grows near the herb garden at the farm. Butterflies love this stuff!

Here’s something exciting.  Floriani Red Flint Corn!  It’s popular in Italy, and we are planting it on the farm here on the prairie this year.  Hmmm.  I’m already thinking about some great polenta this fall.  Yum!

It’s almost too beautiful to plant!
